Marcel the Shell, I mean Tour Guide

It has been a long day. I haven’t had to get up early since we arrived here a week ago. This morning was different. We took a guided tour today. Marcel, our amazing bus driver, took us around to some of the major places around Quebec that we wouldn’t be able to see on foot. As soon as Marcel said “Hallo. My name is Marcel.”, I immediately thought of the Youtube video, Marcel the Shell, thanks to Rebecca Crisler and Ali Newman. Look it up if you’ve never seen it.

Our first stop on our guided tour was to the La Chute de Montmorancey. It was pretty amazing. We rode a gondola up to the top and walked out across a suspension bridge to get a better look.

The view from the gondola...

Headed up to the top.

The bridge over the waterfall.

Our next stop was the Ile d’Orleans. There are only 5 tiny cities on the 21 mile island, and every little house is super cute. I’m pretty sure I would buy a house there if I could. Marcel let us stop at the only chocolate store on the island. Everything looked amazing. After leaving the chocolate shop, Marcel decided that he wanted to buy a treat for us. The island is known for its farms, and there are tons of strawberry fields on the island. So Marcel stopped and bought us some strawberries since today was the first day of the strawberry season. I have never had better strawberries.

After leaving the island, we stopped at a random looking building on the side of the road. It turned out that the building was a copper museum and gift shop. Everything in the store was so pretty, but extremely expensive. We left the copper museum and Marcel decided that we needed to take a drive down the oldest road in Quebec (or maybe Canada, I don’t remember) to a bakery. Oh. Mon. Dieu. That bakery had the best bread and maple butter ever. For only a $1.50, you could get a thick slice of  homemade bread with homemade maple butter spread on it. Heaven in food form.

The bakery bakes its bread every morning in a bread oven outside the building, and across the street, they have a refrigerator...it was all very interesting to see.

We left the bakery and drove out to a nearby church. It was called St. Anne de Beaupre (I think) and people come from all over because it has been said that if you go and pray that you will be healed. They have old canes and crutches hanging on the walls to show how many people have been healed by praying there. The church is a work of art, as Marcel would say J

We got back to the hotel around 1:30, and Hannah Rachel and I cooked us some Chef Boyardee and took us a 2 hour nap. As I said, its been a long day. Around 6:45, Hannah Rachel and I walked over to a tasty Italian place, where I got this...

After eating, we started to walk back to the concert, when we found out that they weren't letting anyone else in because there were so many people. We ended up sitting with the rest of our group on a hill somewhere outside the concert. We sat for hours just laughing, talking, and listening to Metallica a little bit. None of us were really interested in the concert. After the concert was over and when the rest of our group headed out for Le Drag, Hannah Rachel and I made our way back to the hotel, only stopping to get some of this yummy goodness...

It was a small waffle with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce on top!!

Tomorrow, Hannah Rachel and I are getting up really early (in only a few hours from now) and are heading to Montreal for the day! We are taking the Orleans Express (kinda like Greyhound), and we won't be back until late tomorrow night, so my next post probably won’t be until Monday. Later!

  1. I want to eat wherever it is that serves the waffle, ice cream, and chocolate sauce.
